Pedino

This name is relatively recent. It was given in 1955 in replacement of medieval name Pesperagon.
The old name is reported from 1393 (Pesperagos) in documents of M. Pantokratoros. The village initially was found in the place Saint Ioannis more short in the Portiano, in order that reports the A. Mihelis. His The name of it is unknown etymology and rather emanated from certain Byzantine land owner of the region. In 1968 Pedino was struck hardly by a possible earthquake.
Almost it was destroyed and his residents him they abandoned. It was rebuilted 1.500 m. more north near to New Koy'tali. In order to it distinguishes from the old village it was named New Pedino.
North of the Pesperagos in distance 2.000 m. was found the metohi of M. Pantokratoros Alexopyrgos. It was granted in the abbey with gold stamp Ioannis E' Palaiologos (1341-1390) and is reported in 1361 in documents of M. Layras.
The tower that existed there was named Alexopyrgos from the owner of abbey Alexios Stratopedarhis, which became rather the governor of Limnos. By the monastery they are only saved a old church and a sign on the wall 1691, year that it was rebuilted.
