According to the delivery the village initially was found in the plain of airport,
in the place Trohalomantra, where were found ruinings and foundations of home.
The raids of pirates forced the residents to be transported in the current place.
The name Karpasi emanated or from the Turkish "Karabas", that is to
say "black head", or from the kalpaki or kalpasi, that is to say the
cap that wore the abbot of neighbouring monastery. In 1785 the Choiseul-Gouffier
reports in Central Limnos the settlement Calpac, that very probably is the Karpasij.
Finally at the A. Mjheli the region of village constituted property of M. of
Saint Ioannis Patmoy on Ottoman domination. |
