The initial place of village was found 500 m. N.D. of current, in side of hill
St vanos, there that today exists the settlement Anemoessa. Because however
he was visible from the sea, they transported in the back part of hill. The
A. Mihelis writes that its name emanates from his first residents, that were
"Varoysites" holiday makers. These people said Varoysi. If it were
this right version, then the village would be said Baros (Weight). From other
place name refered in 1415 in document of M. Layras with the forms "the
Weight" and "lagkada Variton", while the name Varoysi is later.
In 1780 the Sibthorp reports that it found only 15 houses of sordid situation
in the village, that was obviously destroyed in the "Orlofika" 1770.
Up to 1904 it is reported (Fredrich) with the Byzantine name, "the Weight"
